Visual Work Instructions (VWI) Puzzle Exercise

With Visual Work Instructions (VWI), you can simplify complex tasks, reduce reliance on institutional knowledge, reduce the learning curve, and achieve higher quality output in less time. This exercise will first take you through the process of assembling a puzzle with traditional drawings, and then take you through the process of assembling the puzzle by using a VWI. By the end of this exercise, you will see the benefits that VWIs provide and maybe even have ideas of where they can be used.

To fully appreciate the benefits of a VWI, it is best to understand the traditional standard process. Please try assembling the puzzle using the paper drawings. If you do not have a paper copy, you can access a pdf version here: Puzzle Instructions

In step 4, you will use the VWI to help you build the model. Watch the video below for a few tips to help guide you on how to use the interface. If you are using a touch-capable device such as a cell phone, you can drag you finger to rotate, and pinch to zoom in and out. If you are using a mouse, you can hold your left mouse button to rotate, right mouse button to pan(move), or use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out:
